BMW 2002 Tii for sale 

The BMW 02 Series, produced from 1966 to 1977, is widely credited with establishing BMW's reputation as a maker of legendary sport sedans by combining compact, practical styling with exceptional driving dynamics. At the peak of the naturally aspirated lineup sits the coveted 2002 tii (1971–1975). Featuring a high-compression 2.0-liter M10 inline-four equipped with advanced Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, the tii delivered 130 horsepower alongside razor-sharp throttle response – transforming an unassuming family car into a genuine sports car benchmark of the 1970s.

Exterior: Outside, this BMW 2002 tii is finished in its striking original color of Verona Red. The car has undergone a very thorough restoration that was completed a couple of years ago. The paintwork is very nice, panel gaps are excellent, and the doors close with a reassuring thunk. As a 1974 model, this was the first year to feature the square taillights. People often praise the early round taillights, and while those are beautiful, on a '02 sedan the square taillights really suit the car's boxy design. The trim pieces are in excellent condition; some chrome parts are original, while others have been replaced with new ones. The car sits slightly lower than factory on a set of lowering springs and wears brand-new Minilite wheels wrapped in brand-new Continental tires. These wheels suit the car exceptionally well, but if they are not your cup of tea, the original steel wheels are also included in newly restored condition. The underside of the car is equally clean and well-presented.

Interior: Inside, the 2002 tii remains in mostly original condition, featuring its original half-vinyl, half-cloth front seats and rear bench in very nice condition. The carpets have been renewed. Despite its small footprint, the cabin is spacious and comfortable, offering very usable rear seats, a great driving position up front, and a large trunk. The tall windows allow plenty of natural light into the cabin. The interior is simplistic and minimalistic in a wonderful 70s way, and everything inside functions as it should. At the moment, the car is fitted with its original steering wheel, but a period-correct smaller sport steering wheel is also included.

Engine and Mechanics: Under the hood, you’ll find a 2-liter fuel-injected inline-four engine producing 130 horsepower – more than enough to make this BMW 2002 tii feel quick and lively. The engine is paired with a smooth four-speed transmission, making for a brilliant driving experience that feels both sporty and engaging, yet comfortable and relaxing. All of the car's mechanics have been thoroughly overhauled. The engine was re-sleeved and fitted with new pistons and all-new bearings, and both the gearbox and rear axle were rebuilt. A brand-new mechanical fuel injection system (Kugelfischer) was sourced from Germany. All chassis components were renewed, and the car was upgraded with adjustable torsion bars front and rear, slightly stiffer springs, and Bilstein shocks, allowing it to handle brilliantly.

History: This car was originally sold in Sweden. Its first owner kept it until 1986, when it passed to a new gentleman who owned the car for 33 years until 2019. The subsequent owner was a renowned BMW '02 specialist in the south of Sweden who began a complete restoration of the car, which is fully documented with photos. Remarkably, the car has lived its entire life in the southern part of Sweden, never having an owner outside of Skåne.
