DeTomaso Pantera 1972 for sale
DeTomaso Pantera for sale
DeTomaso is one of those cool brands that captures the spirit of the seventies. Like Iso, Bizzarrini, Monteverdi, Facel Vega and a few others, the idea was simple: European design with an American-built engine. The Pantera became the company’s best-known model and remained in production into the early nineties. Other models followed, but none achieved quite the same status.
DeTomaso’s first road car was the Vallelunga, with a four-cylinder Ford engine. Then came the beautiful Mangusta. The name means “mongoose” in Italian—an animal known for taking on cobras—and is said to have been a cheeky reference to Carroll Shelby’s Cobra.
Exterior This 1972 DeTomaso Pantera is finished in satin yellow—a colour that will not go unnoticed. It sits on 17-inch Heritage wheels in excellent condition. The car underwent a restoration over several years, completed in 2022. All rubber seals were replaced during the restoration, and the car has excellent panel gaps and sharp body lines.
Interior There are a few options when it comes to the interior. As shown in the pictures, it retains a largely original appearance. For taller drivers, an extra set of slimmer seats is included, offering more legroom and a slightly lower seating position.
The car also comes with a complete alternative interior in Alcantara with yellow stitching, including the door cards, dashboard and centre console. All instruments and switches work as they should, as do the electric windows. The air conditioning blows cold.
Engine and mechanics Now, this is where things get interesting. The Cleveland V8 has been stroked to 408 cubic inches and dyno-tested at 545 hp. It was built by a specialist using new components. Please enquire for the full engine specification.
The gearbox was fully rebuilt at the same time. A tuned engine needs proper cooling, and this car has a new aluminium radiator with adjustable twin electric fans. The brakes have also been upgraded to a Wilwood system.
The sound from the Ansa exhaust is fantastic, and the driving experience is every bit as good.
History This DeTomaso Pantera was imported into Sweden from the USA in 2018. A full restoration followed and was completed in 2022. The car has covered approximately 4,000 km since then and is now in excellent condition.
It comes with a thick binder of restoration records and receipts. If you are looking for a DeTomaso Pantera for sale with the right modifications and a well-documented restoration, we invite you to come and see this car.
