Bentley Derby Sport Saloon 1937 for sale 

Rolls Royce acquired Bentley back in 1931 and after that the Bentley cars from this era were named “the silent sportscar.” During this time all Bentley and Rolls Royce cars were sold as rolling chassis and then you could choose your own coachmaker. Often referred to as Derby Bentley since the chassis and mechanical components were built at the Rolls Royce factory in Derby.

Exterior: The Bentley Park Ward Sport Saloon 4 1/4 is, as you can see, in a wonderful exterior colour combination with grey towards the dark blue. This is a car with a wonderful patina. When you get closer you will be able to see scratches and a few smaller blisters in the paint. I saw this car myself for the first time about 30 years ago and it looks pretty much the same today as it did then. One wonderful feature I like is the big sliding sunroof. The chrome parts are in good condition and I think that during this time period the importance of your car was decided by the size of your headlights! If it gets hot in the car, the front screen can also be opened for ventilation through the cabin. And on the outside of the trunk you have a proper spare wheel. As mentioned above, there are many different styles of coachwork, but this one from Park Ward is one of the prettiest.

Interior: In a Bentley or Rolls Royce you always have the gear shifter on the right-hand side, regardless of which side you have the steering wheel. As you can see, this is a right-hand drive example. And if you look closely, you see that there is only a door lock on the left-hand side of the car. Since you are supposed to unlock the car on the left-hand side, being then away from the busy street, and then slide over the passenger seat to the driver’s position. Once you are in place, you will find yourself behind a beautiful dashboard out of proper wood, filled with instruments and a proper ignition switch. In this car you still have the original blue leather, completing the authentic original look of this car. This is a car that you look at and love just like it is, with all the patina that it has. If you for one second think that you can replace something, I think you should look for another car. This is a car in harmony just the way it is, and there are not many cars like this still rolling today.

Engine and mechanics: We just did a 100 km trip with this car without any issues, but it is due for a proper service now. The Bentley was not used much for the past 20 years, but it will start right up if you push the button.

History: The Bentley Park Ward Sport Saloon 1937 was imported from the U.K. about 30 years ago and has been in the same ownership since. It has been regularly maintained over the years and used only on beautiful summer days, since it has been in a larger collection of cars. Always stored out of the sun, but in a dry and heated garage. The time has now come for this British piece of history to embark on new adventures.
