Vehicle Overview
MG Magna L-Type Open Tourer 1933 for sale
MG L1 Magna
The MG L-Type is a rare car that entered production in 1933, replacing the F-Type. Although it had a smaller engine than its predecessor, it produced more power, with 41 hp from its 1,086 cc straight-six. The L-Type was available in two- and four-seat versions, as well as a Continental Coupé.
Exterior: Finished in solid black with black wire wheels, this MG has a purposeful, racy appearance. The car underwent a high-quality, full restoration and has seen little use since. It still looks remarkably fresh today.
Despite its small size, there are so many lovely details to enjoy. As shown in the picture gallery, the car has a folding soft top and a tonneau cover that can cover either the rear seats or the entire passenger compartment when parked overnight. All the chrome is flawless, and the car is as clean underneath as it is on top.
Interior: Once you have settled into the car, you will be surprised by how comfortable the dark blue leather seats are. There is room for four to enjoy a drive on a warm, sunny day.
The engine-turned aluminium dashboard features beautiful instruments set in distinctive octagonal surrounds. Dark blue carpets complement the leather, and even the inside of the doors carries the MG logo.
Engine and mechanics: Weighing just 800 kg, the MG made good use of the 41 hp from its straight-six engine—respectable performance in 1933. The four-speed gearbox is easy to operate, and the model was capable of around 75 mph when new. Today, a comfortable cruising speed is around 45–55 mph.
History: Just 258 MG L1 Magna Tourers were produced. The number that survives is unknown, but this is certainly a rare car today, especially in such fine condition.
The car comes with an extensive history file documenting its restoration. It has been with its current owner for ten years and is now being offered for sale as he reduces his MG collection.
If you are based in the UK and are considering bringing this MG back home, we can help with the arrangements. Shipping with DFDS Seaways costs approximately €1,000. On arrival in U.K there will be a 5% import duty based on the sales invoice.
