Vehicle Overview
When you think of some of the most iconic classic sportscars, I think most people would say Mercedes Gullwing, Porsche Speedster and most certainly many would say Jaguar E-type. The early Jaguar E-type Series 1 Coupe gets a lot of road presence, specially when it comes roaring down the highway early Saturday morning like in the video.
Exterior: This Jaguar E-type 3.8l Series 1 Coupe from 1962 has a very nice and shiny paintwork. It was painted many years ago and you can find some smaller traces of age. The bumpers and all other chromed details are in excellent condition. The Jaguar has a nice and balanced ride height. The gaps on the hood and the doors are just perfect and they are easy to close. The Series 1 Coupe is rolling on a beautiful set of chrome spoke wheels fitted with proper Michelin tyres with a classic pattern.
Interior: Since this is a 1962 Jaguar E-type Coupe, it has those gorgeous aluminium panels. And, this makes you feel like you are seated inside an aircraft from the sixties. The red leather seats are very nice and soft. You have proper red four point seat belts for safety and a fire extinguisher right behind the driver. It is very nice and clean inside, also the headliner is perfect.
Engine: In the early 90´s, Antonio from Portugal had a dream to start in the Monte Carlo rally. So, this particular car was prepared for that in UK. Two companies in UK by the name of Bary Hodson and Tony Thompson Racing helped him to set the car up for the race. There were many changes made, but many of them have later been removed again. There were some performance upgrades made to the engine. Head with higher compression, exhaust headers and free flow exhaust system. Aluminium radiator and a bigger fuel tank. And, that aluminium radiator was rebuilt in 2020. Today, the car has the original fuel tank. I have driven many Jaguar E-types, but never had one that is so smooth over bumps in the road. The exhaust is a little bit louder than a normal Jaguar E-type, but it is easy to fit a normal exhaust system if that is preferred. Otherwise the car is up-to-date mechanically and ready to go. It keeps cool and all electric equipment is working.
History: As many of the left hand drive Jaguar E-type Series 1 cars, this one also started out its journey in New York USA in November 1962. Later on in the region of 1990, it came back to UK and here it received the following work.
1992-02 Basically everything except engine and gearbox/diff was put new or overhauled. A top class bare metal repaint in the original Carmen red.
1992-12 Barry Hodson E-Type specialists made a complete rebuild of the engine, inspection of the gearbox, complete overhaul of the brake system with new brake callipers, cylinders etc.
The car started in Monte Carlo rally 1993, but unfortunately broke down and was not able to finish.
The history of this car is well documented with invoices. It is matching numbers and comes with Heritage certificate. The Jaguar E-type came to Sweden in June 2013 and has lived a quiet life here. With only two careful owners, the car is today in excellent shape.
