Mercedes 280CE Strich 8 W114 1972 for sale
The Mercedes 280 CE W114 was the top-of-the-line model which came about in 1973 and production ended in 1976 with about 11,500 cars built. The Mercedes Strich 8 model was in production from 1967 to 1976.
Exterior: This gorgeous Mercedes 280CE W114 is in the original colour, silver green metallic. This must be one of the best colours for this car. It looks stunning! It was repainted in the late eighties and still looks like new. All the chrome and rubber on the car is just perfect. It has one of those old huge electric sunroofs that open up half the roof. With the windows down on the sides, it looks like a big hardtop has been fitted to the car. Rolling on a set of refurbished “Barock wheels” fitted with white stripe tyres making it look a bit more modern than it actually is. The flat front headlights were introduced in 1973 and they give the Mercedes 280CE its unique look. Doors close easily with the distinctive Mercedes feel and sound.
Interior: The interior feels very luxurious with the green velour in wonderful condition. Everything on the inside of this Mercedes appears to be original and is still in a remarkable condition. Every detail from the chrome on the side of the seats to door panels and dashboard is in very nice condition. All instruments are beautiful and fully working. A fully functioning time period correct cassette/radio. In the trunk, it is nice and clean. It has the original rubber carpet, spare wheel and tools in its place. When you take a seat in this car, it is easy to understand this is a low-km Mercedes 280 CE.
Engine: The nearly indestructible Mercedes straight six engine runs very smoothly. The automatic gearbox that was new to the 1973-year model changes the gears today just like it did when the car was new. It is a very relaxing and comforting car to drive in excellent mechanical condition. Last oil service was in July 2022. The car has had the oil changed every year regardless of km driven. The exhaust system is new from the middle of the car and backwords. The W114 has a very good oil pressure and is cruising comfortably in 110 km/h on the highway while the passing cars are looking over and I imagine they are thinking – Wow! how can a Mercedes that old go so fast!
History: The last owner had this car for 37 years! He was working as a truck driver his entire life and this Mercedes was his pride and joy. It was never taken out on rainy days and always very well looked after. This Mercedes came on the street the first time on April the 10th in 1973. It then changed owner in 1977 and 1980 before arriving to the final owner until I bought the car in 2022. It comes with original handbook and many supporting documents indicating that the km reading of 68,000 km could be correct. Even if it is 168,000, the car is incredibly intact and well-kept. I cannot think of a more elegant and delightful European collector Mercedes in this price range.
