Rolls Royce Silver Wraith for sale

1957 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith Hooper Touring Limousine

The Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, introduced in 1946, stands as the marque’s definitive post-war flagship model. Built exclusively as a rolling chassis at Crewe until 1958, it was the last of the true coachbuilt Rolls-Royces, giving prominent buyers the freedom to commission bespoke bodies from legendary firms like Hooper & Co. As a final-year 1958 production model, this particular vehicle represents the peak of Silver Wraith mechanical development. It features the ultimate 4.9-liter inline-six engine, factory left-hand drive, a smooth four-speed automatic transmission, and factory power steering.

Finding a late-production, factory LHD Silver Wraith for sale is exceptionally rare. Finding one preserved in untouched, highly original condition is nearly impossible.

Exterior: Finished in its original, extraordinarily deep black cellulose paint, the body of this Silver Wraith is remarkably well-preserved. It exhibits the tight, unified feel that only an untouched original car can maintain. The aluminum bodywork was handcrafted by Hooper & Co. and features their signature rear wheel spats, giving the car a sleek and commanding side profile. The exterior chrome remains in near-mint condition, bright and unmarred. Notably, the rear doors still wear the original small monogram initials "AJ", a discreet nod to its first owner, Norwegian industrialist Anders Jahre.

Interior: The cabin is completely original and offers a rare glimpse into mid-century luxury. Rather than leather, this vehicle was specified with the premier interior option of the era: 100% pure Bedford wool cloth fitted to both the front and rear compartments. The rear cabin feels like a private lounge, equipped with impeccably preserved original wood trim, pristine carpets, folding picnic tables, and an electric glass partition screen.

Engine and Mechanics: Underneath the bonnet, the late-spec 4.9-liter F-head straight-six engine starts effortlessly and runs near-silently. Power is delivered smoothly through the automatic gearbox, and the factory power steering makes maneuvering this full-sized limousine surprisingly light and effortless. Mechanically excellent and well-sorted.

History and Provenance: Delivered new to Anders Jahre, one of Scandinavia’s wealthiest business figures of his era. This Silver Wraith was kept at his Osbyholm estate in southern Sweden and driven by a private chauffeur. During Jahre’s ownership, the car was frequently seen with high-profile guests, including the current King of Sweden and members of the Wallenberg family. Rolls-Royce specialists were regularly dispatched directly to the estate to carry out maintenance.

Following the liquidation of Jahre's estate in the mid-1980s, the car was purchased at auction by the current owner’s family, who have cherished and stored it in ideal conditions ever since. Offered today with an unbeatable combination of original paint, pristine wool interior, and exceptional Scandinavian provenance, this 1957 Silver Wraith is a standout survivor for any serious classic car collector.
