Jaguar XJS Convertible Celebration model for sale
The Jaguar XJS is a legendary grand tourer that beautifully blends old-world British luxury with a striking, low-slung silhouette. While early models gained a reputation for being complex, the late-model "facelift" cars produced under Ford’s ownership completely revitalized the lineup. By combining Jaguar's timeless styling with modernized electronics, improved build quality, and a highly dependable drivetrain, these final-era convertibles have become some of the most desirable, usable, and rapidly appreciating modern classics on the market today.
Exterior: This Jaguar XJS Convertible really catches your eye. Finished in its highly elegant and original light green metallic paint, the car looks both stunning and remarkably modern. In general, the XJS is a truly beautiful and arguably underrated car. These late facelift models look particularly sharp, thanks to their body-colored painted bumpers – a massive upgrade over the heavy rubber bumpers of earlier cars – and a revised front spoiler. Handsome original wheels and a perfect factory suspension stance finish off the look.
The paintwork is in great condition, as are the stainless steel trim pieces. The car boasts sharp, straight body lines and is completely free of corrosion. Lastly, it features an electric black soft top in excellent condition, along with a beige soft top cover for when the roof is folded down. This is truly one of those rare convertibles that maintains a beautiful, sweeping silhouette even with the top up.
Interior: Inside the XJS, you are greeted by a gorgeous Magnolia Beige leather interior that compliments the exterior color beautifully. The seats show a few minor imperfections but remain in generally excellent condition, especially given how well light-colored leather must be maintained. The cabin offers an excellent seating position with fully electrically adjustable, heated seats. In the back, you will find a pair of usable rear seats for extra passengers or storage.
With the roof up, the multi-layered soft top provides excellent insulation against road noise, giving you the quiet, buttoned-down feeling of a true coupe. The car retains its original Jaguar stereo, which works perfectly alongside a surprisingly good factory sound system. Additionally, the trunk is quite large, offering plenty of accommodation for luggage on extended road trips.
Engine and Mechanics: Under the hood lies the notoriously bulletproof AJ16 4.0-liter inline-six engine. Developed under Ford’s ownership, the AJ16 solved the overheating and electrical nightmares of older V12 Jaguars, earning its reputation as one of the most robust engines Jaguar ever built. It puts out 237 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque, mated to a silky-smooth 4-speed ZF automatic transmission.
This powertrain offers effortless highway cruising with plenty of low-end torque, making it a fantastic car to drive with the top up or down. With the roof lowered, the cabin experiences just the right amount of airflow, allowing you to have a perfectly calm conversation with your passenger at 90 km/h. For added comfort on long journeys, the car is also equipped with a highly convenient cruise control system.
